Life begins at 40
It is said that our life is divided in 4 phases. The first phase is from 0-20 years, the carefree phase. It is when we play and learn. The second phase is from 20-40 years, the preparation phase. It is at this stage where we are supposed to prepare for old age. We work and build a career. We build relationships that last.
The third phase which is from 40-60 years is the enjoyment phase. It is when we reap the rewards of our "preparation". We often hear that life begins at 40. It's because at this point of our lives we are supposed to be stable and successful.
The last phase is called the dependency phase. This phase sums up our lives. This is what we all prepare for. All those hard work -- to have stable finances, to build stable relationships, to collect good memories -- is to prepare us for this stage in our lives.
I am now 36, almost at the end of the second phase of my life. And there are things I know I should have done better. What if I turn 40 and am not succesful yet? How will I "begin my life" then?
